What is Recommended:


Server/Stand-alone computers:

  • Processor: 3 GHz or higher multi-core processor
  • Operating system: Microsoft Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), Windows 8/8.1 (32 or 64 bit), Windows 10 (32 or 64 bit)
  • Memory: 12 GB of RAM
  • 160 GB available hard disk space  (RAID 1, RAID 5 or RAID 10)
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • T1, DSL, Cable or other high speed internet connection
  • 19" Widescreen or larger monitor: 1280 x 1024 pixels or higher using small fonts
  • LaserJet & Ink jet printers (laser recommended)
  • 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet Network Interface
  • Subscription to PK Software's Offsite Backup service so backups happen offsite every night OR
    2 GB or more USB Data Storage Device

Client computers:

  • Processor: 3 GHz or higher multi-core processor
  • Operating system: Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), Windows 8/8.1 (32 or 64 bit), Windows 10 (32 or 64 bit)
  • Memory:  8 GB of RAM
  • 10 GB available hard disk space

  • T1, DSL, Cable or other high speed internet connection
  • 19" Widescreen or larger monitor: 1280 x 1024 pixels or higher using small fonts
  • LaserJet & Ink jet printers (laser recommended)
  • 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet Network Interface
  • One or two serial ports. This is needed for connection with the electronic balances. (Can use PCCA #35-5043, Data Cables for Ohaus balances.)
  • For balance integration and necessary cables, contact PCCA PK Software Support.
  • Laser printer with two trays. (Lexmark Optra series work well.)
  • Dymo label printer for address labels, bar code labels and batch labels
  • PCCA Barcode Scanner for Quality Assurance functionality (PCCA #35-3221)
  • RECOMMENDED SCANNERS FOR RX IMAGING · Any TWAIN scanner will work.

Notes On 64 Bit Operating Systems (OS):

You need to make sure that you have all hardware drivers when you use a 64 bit operating system.  Many drivers for 32 will not work for 64 bit OS.   Many applications will still not work on Vista 64.  Make sure that you and/or your IT staff are aware of this before you upgrade your computers.

User Account Control: This may need to be turned to low or turned off to access some printers on the network.

Remote Desktop/Virtual Machines/Terminal Services:

The Compounder does work for remote desktop/terminal services and/or virtual machines.  However these technologies must be supported at the pharmacy level by a knowledgeable IT staff. 

What Is NOT Recommended:

  • Windows Small Business Server (SBS) is not currently supported. Please contact PK Support for more details.
  • Computers running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista
  • Running on a machine with less than 2 GB of RAM
  • A Dot matrix printer
  • A Thermal Zebra printer
  • Wireless networks
